How does it work?

The exercise is originally known is zhanzhuang (站桩), which means ‘standing tree’ or ‘standing post’ and “standing form’. 

Although you stand motionless when performing the exercise (this is how the description of relaxing like a tree comes about), it makes you stand in a posture that promotes the flow of chi.
